How Secure do you want to be ?

This week i walked into the Library looking for a few books to refresh my memory.
Glancing across the shelves i accidently picked up this ( for now uncatalogued ) book documenting „the internet from 1884 to today”, shocking, but a very interesting approach. The internet has apparently been a growing concept, an exponent of Reason and Enlightenment. There was also ( a for now uncatalogued book ) stating we’re living in a transitional time where nothing will ever be the same again. Think big networked society-ish. Think a lot of computer-ish.
Now i’m bothered, not just because i’m desperate about my accomplishements at this time in my life.
But because i’ve seen the brickwork for William Gibsons „Neuromancer”. Which I think is very freightening.
We’ve barely escaped the stoneage and we’re looking not only at the stars but well beyond. From the time spent in the abyss of our own powerhungry past we’re looking ahead.
Or rather, so is our Elite, so so are we.
If one still dares to use the word Elite.
The sheer size of the world-population is the greatest power ever to be seen on earth. No barrier, but the Earth itself, can contain this force. But is it a force ? Is it not simply a dusty rag stuck to the windshield of our Elite(s) ?
A hurd for enabling and fulfilling their ever growing appetite for power, redemption, destruction, liberation, wealth, oppression.
Are we, the people, the enemy ?
Should we worry about the next decade. Aren’t we building our own demise, a perfect prison, written in binary ? A society with such destinct difference between rich and poor there will not be any motivation or hope left for an individual to rise and free it’s people and loved ones from this oppression.
Humanity has allways been a basket of nutcases . . . what about this time, will this be the last time ? Is this the last generation that will know the true meaning of FREE-dom, or will it be the first ? The first to enjoy the networked society, an interdepending society with lower peaks and higher lows ?
